Effect of Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy on Hope, Dysfunctional Attitudes and Meta-worry in Infertile Women

Introduction: Infertility has many negative consequences, such as decreasing hope and increasing dysfunctional attitudes and meta-worry. One of the methods to improve psychological states is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy method. Therefore, the aim of this study was determine the effect of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy on hope, dysfunctional attitudes and meta-worry in infertile women. Methods: The present study was a semi-experimental with pre-test and post-test design with control group. The research population was infertile women who referred to infertility clinics of Tehran city in 2018 year. The research sample consisted of 30 people who were selected by voluntary sampling method and randomly assigned into two equal groups (each group 15 people). The experimental group trained 8 sessions of 90-minute with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy method and the control group were placed on the waiting list for training. The research tools were the questionnaires of hope, dysfunctional attitudes and meta-worry. Data analyzed with Mann-Whitney, independent t-test and multivariate analysis of covariance methods in SPSS-18 software. Results: The findings showed that there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in terms of hope, dysfunctional attitudes and meta-worry in infertile women. In the other words, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy led to increase hope (F=126/089, P<0/001) and decrease dysfunctional attitudes (F=68/596, P<0/001) and meta-worry (F=143/190, P<0/001) in infertile women. Conclusions: Based on the findings, it is suggested that use from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy method for improve the health-related characteristics of infertile women such as increasing hope and decreasing dysfunctional attitudes and meta-worry.
